Barley Hill White
Our first ever white wine, Barley Hill White is an off-dry white wine. The wine is made using a blend of grapes from across our vineyards, including Seyval and Madeleine Angevine.
Barley Hill White gets its name from one of the (many) crops that have been planted by the Wilson family in South Cave. The sprawling valleys posed quite the challenge for typical agricultural practices, as the steep incline made it difficult for machines to work on the land properly. although we’ve always tried our best to make it work, it wasn’t until Henry Wilson planted the first vines on Thirty Acre that we realised what we had was the perfect location for growing grapes.

Tasting notes
Barley Hill has notes of stone fruits and white flowers typical of an English wine. The finish is considered off-dry, making it the least dry white wine in our collection.
Winemaking & Ageing
The grapes are picked and pressed within 48 hours to ensure quality and minimise loss as it sits. We aim to press all our varieties separately to give us maximum choice later down the line. The must undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks, before being left for six months. The wine then undergoes blending trials, completed by Alice, Tom, Henry and a handful of the LWV team. Our Barley Hill White is typically a blend of Seyval Blanc and Madeleine Angevine. It is bottled here in South Cave, and left to rest for a couple of months before it makes its way onto your table.
Pairing
Our Barley Hill White is described as, ‘off dry’, making it the ideal match for fish dishes. In particular we would recommend serving Barley Hill White with a rich shellfish meat, such as crab, and spices, which will complement the subtle sweetness of our Seyval and Madeline grapes. If you’re not a fan of fish, we’d suggest a dish rich in aromatics, such as a tikka masala – or a vegan-friendly curry, if you would prefer no meat at all! Paired with the herbaceous notes on the nose from Barley Hill White, together this will make for a delicious culinary experience.
A very nice wine that compares very favourably with wines from traditional wine growing regions.

FAQ
How often do you hold your events?
Our events are generally held at least monthly if not more depending on the time of year. We try to advertise dates around 3 months in advance.
How much wine will I consume on my visit?
Each wine sample is generally around 50-75ml. If you would like a spittoon during your visit, please let a member of the team know.
Can I bring my dog?
We are a dog friendly venue, but always ask that they are kept on a lead and that owners are respectful of other guests who may not like your fury friends as much as we do. We also polite request they DO NOT sit on our furniture.
What happens if I change my mind and can’t attend on the day I have booked?
Sadly we cannot change dates that have been booked for a whole host of reasons. If you are unable to attend an event you are booked on to, we advise you give us as much notice as possible and we will add them back to the system and try resell the tickets. If they do not sell the full amount will be lost. More can be read in our Ts &Cs.
Can I gift events?
We advise that people buy one of our ‘gift cards’ rather than booking a specific event. This means rather than loose the booking if they cannot attend, that they can book a date that works for them OR purchase wine.
Can I leave my car after the event?
While you are allowed to leave cars, they are done so at the owners risk. The properties gates will also be locked when the staff leave and are only open during opening house Please ensure you (or your guests) check what the opening times are on the day following your event.
